Spooky season is creeping in and this year the lash trend everyone's talking about isn't length, it's legs. Spider lashes are taking over For You pages: clumped, spiked, dramatically fanned out lashes that look like they could scuttle off your lid at any moment. It's a bit unhinged, deeply gothic and honestly, we're obsessed. 🕷️

If you've been doing the same soft wispy flutter for months, this is your sign to get weird with your lash game. Here's how we're building spider lashes at Jolie Beauty HQ, step by step.

What exactly are spider lashes?

Spider lashes are exactly what they sound like: lashes deliberately clumped together into thick, spiky little legs rather than separated into a soft fan. Think Halloween runway rather than everyday natural. It's a technique, not a product, which means you can build it with kit you probably already own, or grab a couple of new bits below to make it easier.

Step 1: Prep and curl

Start on a clean lid with freshly curled lashes. Our Eyelash Curler with a built in comb is brilliant here because it separates as it curls, giving you a proper base to clump from later rather than a stuck together mess.

Before mascara goes anywhere near your lashes, colour correct and brighten the under eye with our Second Skin Concealer. Spider lashes are a statement, so you want the rest of the eye area looking crisp and awake to balance it out.

Step 2: Build your base coat

Apply a generous coat of our AMPLIFIED Mascara from root to tip, wiggling the wand as you go. This is our gothic festival tubing mascara, built to hold volume without flaking, smudging or melting down your face by 2am, which matters enormously once you start layering for spider effect.

Let that first coat dry for thirty seconds before moving on. Skipping this step is the fastest way to end up with clumps in all the wrong places.

Step 3: Clump and spike

Now for the fun bit. While the mascara is still slightly tacky, use the tip of a clean spoolie or your fingertips to pinch small sections of lashes together, pulling them into points as you go. Add a second coat of AMPLIFIED Mascara directly to these clumped sections to lock the spikes in place. Don't be precious about it, spider lashes thrive on a bit of chaos and asymmetry.

If any lashes need extra reinforcement or you're adding a few individual false lashes into the mix for more drama, a tiny dot of our LASHLOCK Clear Eyelash Glue along the clump will hold everything exactly where you put it, all day and all night.

Step 4: Draw in the web

For an extra spooky finish, use our Infinity Eyeliner Pen to draw fine, spiky little lines radiating out from your lash line, echoing the shape of your clumps. The ultra fine tip makes this easy even if your hand isn't the steadiest, and the waterproof formula means it won't budge once it's set.

You can keep this subtle with just a few extra lines at the outer corner, or go full drama and take it right across the lid. Both are correct.

Step 5: Set it and forget it

Spider lashes take a bit of effort to build, so protect the investment. A few mists of our Mosh Proof Setting Spray over the whole face will keep everything, clumps, liner and all, exactly where you left it, whether you're heading to a gig, a Halloween party or just surviving a long shift.

Step 6: Finish the face
